Spotlight on Tango Sierra Golf: An exclusive Q&A with TSG’s brand ambassador
We’re proud to introduce Tango Sierra Golf, TSG's new brand ambassador, and voice for field-ready, no-nonsense emergency response. In this interview, Tango shares her perspective on preparedness, priorities, and some common misconceptions in trauma care, giving a glimpse into the mindset required when seconds can make the difference between life and death.
Hi Tango!
Hi, great to be here. Thanks for havin me.
It's a pleasure. I've got a few questions if that's okay.
Absolutely. Go ahead.
How would you describe yourself in three words?
Curious. Sharp. Reliable. Those qualities are essential for any field-ready responder, and they also describe how I approach every assignment.
What's your favourite motto or catchphrase?
"Casualty survival prioritised" It sums up the mindset needed in emergency care. I also use "Patient care delivered" frequently - especially when every second counts. And occasionally, I throw in "Keep calm and check the kit", a little humour helps even in serious situations.
Why the name "Tango Sierra Golf"?
It's a call-sign nod to the NATO phonetic alphabet, but it's also personal. The name balances seriousness and memorability, making it perfect for a role where seconds matter and clarity counts.
What really frustrates you in your line of work?
Misinformation, especially around hypothermia. Oversimplifying it can be dangerous.
So, you’re not a fan of space blankets?
They have a place, but they aren't a solution on their own. Proper thermal protection is essential, a space blanket alone won't stop you from turning into a human popsicle!
If someone ignores your advice, what would you say?
This isn’t about opinion; it's about evidence. Every second matters in emergencies. Cutting corners costs lives.
How do you feel about people who "wing it" in emergencies?
No plan ever survives the first contact. Although we may not always have the kit we want, or enough of it, in a situation, prior planning and preparation, together with practice, practice, practice helps mitigate against having to wing it.
One thing you wish everyone knew about safety or preparedness?
Always have a plan which includes alternatives and doing the basics well. In high-pressure moments, it's mindset and experience. As well as knowing your priorities instinctively, understanding why and what the mission is, that determines outcomes.
If you had a toolkit, what would be in it?
Dry socks. A few Cuppa Soups, Minestrone, ideally. Plus my Xtract SR System and SmartTriage gear which are essential for the job. And yes, I always carry a pen. You never know when you might need to sign an autograph, or, more realistically, a vital report!
What would be your ideal mission or assignment?
Cold weather operations. Remote, high-stakes environments where every decision matters. I'll be leading TSG’s "Hypothermia, Are You Serious?" campaign soon and the environment will test every skill in my toolkit.
Who would be your ideal sidekick or partner character?
Someone calm under pressure, highly trained, and equipped. Probably Dr Quinn, Medicine Woman, steady, skilled, and adaptable. And they better have a good sense of humour, someone has to laugh at my terrible kit jokes!
And that's all the time we have today. Thank you, Tango Sierra Golf.
Pleasure. Speak soon.
